Jubilee Place excavation complete

Despite necessary COVID19 safety measures including disciplined social distancing for everyone onsite, Watpac is powering on with the build of Jubilee Place, located on the corner of St Pauls Terrace and Symes Street in Brisbane’s Fortitude Valley.

Upon completion, Jubilee Place will house Watpac’s own headquarters, along with IWG’s Spaces co-working hub. Its modern architecture will be complemented by the beautiful heritage character of the revitalised Jubilee Hotel. An additional approximately 9,200sqm of office space remains available to lease.

Watpac have been on site since September 2019 preparing the site for the state-of-the-art new build. Bulk excavation of the site adjacent to the heritage-listed Jubilee Hotel is now complete and detailed excavation is currently underway in preparation for the ground slab to be poured prior to the commencement of above-ground structural work. The crane is on-site and the build remains on track for a late 2021 completion.

Watpac has an outstanding reputation for engineering and construction of large complex steel structures, ranging from stadiums to industrial projects. Jubilee Place combines challenging structural engineering and functionality with architectural beauty in the form of a state-of-the-art 14-storey commercial office tower. Jubilee Place will become an iconic example of a steel ‘diagrid’ structure being used both structurally and architecturally to its full potential. The design is showcasing the engineering strength that Watpac has inherited from parent company BESIX Group which is responsible for many iconic buildings around the world. Jubilee place will be a stunning landmark and one of the first projects in Australia to showcase this new combined BESIX and Watpac engineering capability.

Watpac CEO, Jean-Pol Bouharmont is very enthusiastic about Jubilee Place. “Brisbane is a dynamic and progressive city with enormous potential for growth. This project is very important to us and we’re really pleased with the way we have kept the project moving while managing the necessary COVID19 protocols to keep our people and the community safe. We are delighted to be part of the Jubilee Place adventure, its sustainability, its practical use of open space and the beautiful workplace of tomorrow that it will become.”
